Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Polifine ("Polifine," "we," "us") governing your use of the Polifine website and mobile applications (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service and at least 18 to create an account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.

The Service is provided for general information. It is not legal, voting, or professional advice. Election dates, districts, ballot status, and candidate information change, sometimes quickly. Always confirm your registration status, polling place, and ballot with your local election authority or the Michigan Secretary of State before acting.

Every candidate position we publish is intended to carry a citation to a primary public source, and we show you that source so you can verify it yourself. We review records before publication and re-check them periodically. Even so, public records can be incomplete, superseded, or misinterpreted, and we do not warrant that all information is accurate, current, or complete.

Where we find no public record for a candidate on an issue, we say so rather than guess. If you believe a published position or source is wrong, you may submit a correction request through the Service. We review submissions, and where a correction is warranted we supersede the record and publish a note describing the change. We do not remove accurate information because a candidate or campaign objects to it.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to harass, defame, impersonate, or mislead any person.
• Scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or systematically extract data from the Service without our written permission.
• Use the Service or its data to build a competing product or to target voters with political advertising.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems, or to interfere with their operation.
• Misrepresent Polifine’s content as an endorsement, or alter comparison results before sharing them.
• Use the Service in violation of any election, privacy, or other applicable law.

If you provide a mobile number, you consent to receive one-time passcodes by SMS for account verification. We do not send marketing, promotional, campaign, or fundraising messages. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. You may remove your number in settings at any time to stop all messages.

Your survey responses remain yours; you grant us a limited license to process them to operate the Service and to include them in aggregate, de-identified research as described in the Privacy Policy. The Service itself — including software, design, methodology, cause definitions, compiled records, text, and the Polifine name and logo — is owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property law, including pending patent rights. You may share your own results using the sharing features provided. You may not otherwise copy, republish, or commercially exploit our content without written permission.

The Service links to third-party sources such as government records, legislative databases, and news reports so you can verify claims. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, and a link is not an endorsement.

You agree to indemnify and hold Polifine harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.

We may modify the Service or these Terms. If we make a material change to these Terms, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You and Polifine agree to attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us first. Any dispute not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Wayne County, Michigan, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
